Union des Professeurs de Physique et de Chimie

UdPPC - France

Who are we?

UdPPC dates back to 1907.

The acronym UdPPC stands for “Union des Professeurs de Physique et de Chimie” – i.e. Association of teachers of physics and chemistry

Members of UdPPC are individuals who are either actively involved in or feel related to classroom teaching in Physics and Chemistry.

UdPPC has some 4000 members and is the association for all…

- teachers and school lab technician working in physics and chemistry and teaching in lower and upper secondary schools (resp. collège and lycée) as well as in ‘classes préparatoires’ (intensive 2 year preparation for Scientific High Schools) and in Universities.

- teachers in Teacher Training Institutes (Instituts Universitaires de Formation des Maîtres)

- everyone else, interested in Science Education.

Organisation

UdPPC is ruled by a National Board (Bureau National) assisted by a Council (Conseil National)

UdPPC has 27 regional boards, one in each ‘académie’ (educational administration area)

Every year UdPPC organises a national meeting ‘Journées nationales’ which takes place in a different region each year. It is organised by the regional board, and hosted by universities or teacher training institutes.

The regional boards also organise their own meetings, training periods, workshops, visits…, at a local level.

Communication

- UdPPC publishes a journal called “Le BUP physique chimie”. Each monthly issue totals around 200 pages with articles about science, didactic of physics and chemistry, debates and hints on new curricula, and information about the association itself. The articles are freely submitted by teachers and researchers to an editorial staff.

A CD-Rom containing the archive of the journal (since 1907) will be published in 2005.

Nearly 2000 institutes (colleges, high schools, universities, libraries…) have subscribed to this publication, as well as about 3000 individuals.
